How Can I Build Fitness Into My Life?

I recently shared an article from Forbes magazine in which I was interviewed back in 2005 on how to build fitness into your lifestyle. This is a topic that I am very passionate about, hence, why I started FitAfter45 (although I am a bit closer to 50 right now) not too long ago.

Incorporating fitness into your life is doing just that- building it into your schedule. People who have kids, run a business or have any other major commitments tend to have a harder time fitting in time to workout. As someone with both kids and a business, I know first hand how hard it can be to find slivers of free time.

The biggest thing when it comes to fitness is having your workouts or your activities planned right into your schedule. Whatever your workout may encompass, whether it’s lifting weights, jogging, playing a sport, etc, you want to put that in your schedule like any other appointment. Treat your fitness regimes like a serious commitment (because it really is). When we prioritize and schedule our days, we are more inclined to follow through with what we had planned. Putting time for fitness into your schedule also creates a sense of, “I need to do this” as oppose to, “I could probably do that at some point.” Treat it like work- when you are given a schedule, you have to abide by it.

You also want to ensure that whatever you are doing in terms of fitness is fun and enjoyable. If it isn’t fun and enjoyable, you are less inclined to commit to it in the grand scheme of things. Don’t be afraid to explore the world of fitness and try new things. Not everyone likes jogging or hitting the weights and that is okay. It comes down to something that you enjoy doing that also has a plethora of health benefits. Life is meant to be enjoyed!

By finding something you enjoy doing and letting the people who are important to you know that it is part of your schedule, you are going to achieve your fitness goals and all you do will become a part of who you are.
