PHILOSOPHY– I’m a big believer in exercise being a gift for the body and never a punishment. Exercise is fun and never just a “work” out. My training style is focused on fun and keeping exercise simple.
When did your athletic career begin?
My love for athletics started in the backyard, playing with friends and family. I have had a love for sports from a very young age. When I wasn’t watching a sport, I was either playing video games or playing games of backyard cricket or Australian football. It was competitive, fun, and kept me occupied.
What adversity have you had to overcome as an athlete?
Besides not being a very good one, it was definitely when I suffered 3 herniated disks in my lower back. That injury put me out of action for a long time and I would not wish a back injury on my worst enemy. It was a burden mentally, financially, and physically for myself and my family.
How has working out impacted your life?
Where do I even begin? Working out has given me a career for the past 10 years as a personal trainer. In this capacity, I have helped people become better versions of themselves and had front row seats throughout the entire process- the good and the bad. Consistent training continues to be great for my health as I get older and exercise allows me to still teach my kids a lesson or two in the backyard. Without lifting, I don’t know where I would be.
How often do you train and for how long?
In some capacity, I train 7 days a week. 3-4 days of weight lifting and the rest of the days I do mobility work, foam rolling, walking, strengthening and conditioning. I exercise anywhere from 20 to 75 minutes a day.
What is your #1 fitness tip?
I am going to take a quote from the great coach Dan John on this one, “doing a little over the long haul.”
In other words, consistency is key. Your health and fitness do not stop after a 6-week challenge or after you have hit one of your goals. You keep going and keep moving, even if it’s minimal; the body is meant to move. Consistency and longevity are imperative for life long health.
